Parenting
All of the psychology books on development will give immense detail on the phases of development that children experience, but what about us parents. I think we have distinct phases also, however, different parents excel at different stages and others struggle.
Infant Stage - "Will my baby ever sleep through the night or stop crying. I haven't slept a full night since the baby was born."
Terrible Two's - "What do you mean time-out, my child won't stay in time-out. He won't stay anywhere for more than two minutes. And the tantrums.....yes, he wins, I cannot take the screaming!"
Pre-adolescents - "I worry all of the time that my child won't make friends. It seems like kids today are meaner and meaner. The teasing and cliques are terrible."
Middle School/Pre-teen - "Overnight my delightful child was swallowed by this moody monster. I honestly am not sure what is going on with her most of the time."
Terrible Teens - "Yeah, he can finally drive." "Oh no, she can finally drive." "I just wish my daughter would talk to me like she used to. I seem to be the enemy all of the sudden."
It is always something and when it is our child it is really difficult to be objective. Coaching or Family counseling is available to help parents and/or their child to work through difficult times, assist in communication, or plan for the future.
